Will Samuel is a lifelong Alaskan and local to the Fairbanks area. He originally became interested in the natural sciences while working as a backcountry guide which allowed me to explore much the Alaskan wilderness. Once he began his B.S. in Natural Resource Management at UAF, he decided that he wanted to specialize towards fisheries science and freshwater ecology. During his bachelor’s he spent time working as a field technician for the Institute of Arctic Biology on a project assessing the effects of wildfire on juvenile Chinook Salmon (Oncorhynchus tshawytscha). In his senior year he completed an independent research project which ultimately motivated him to pursue a master’s degree. After graduating in May of 2021, he worked for the Freshwater Fish Ecology Lab (AKCFWRU) as a technician on related fire projects and doing pilot research for his current master’s position.
